St. Augustine

St. Augustine is a great option if you’re looking for a weekend or day trip outside of Central Florida. Roughly two hours from Orlando, this charming city is full of cobblestone streets and brick buildings. You can spend a full day browsing the eclectic stores or visiting the city’s highlights like Flagler College, window shopping and eating your way through St. George Street or even taking a ghost tour!

When I took a day trip with my mother, our first stop was the famous Lightner Museum. Back in the 30s, it was home to the world’s largest indoor swimming pool where wealthy guests would stay. Today, it has been transformed. What was once filled with water is now a restaurant lined with antique stores. Even if you don’t plan on eating here, it’s still a must-see stop!

Afterward, we decided to walk around and explore. There are so many lovely bed & breakfasts that make for great photos. Whenever I travel anywhere I make it a point to have a craft beer which is why we found ourselves at A1A Ale Works sitting on the balcony admiring the city and people watching. From there, we made the little trek to the Castillo de San Marcos that sits right on the water.

I’d recommend fasting before going to St. Augustine because there were so many delicious food vendors and tucked away restaurants that I wanted to try. My rule of thumb is that anywhere I can ride a bike on cobblestone streets past Victorian architecture is definitely on my list!
